Family Photographer Nottingham

Natural Outdoor Children & Family Photos

Hello and thank you for visiting Alison Edwards Photography. I’m a family photographer in Nottingham photographing families in outdoor locations in Nottinghamshire and Derby and across the East Midlands. Being in an outdoor environment is a great way to capture children’s personalities and families interacting together.

FAQ’s about Family Sessions

I’m always happy to chat about how I work, locations we could go to and suggestions based on your children’s ages.

Below are some questions about my family sessions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Country parks and woodland areas work well for family photos, places similar to Wollaton Park, Rufford Park or Highfields Park.  If there is a special place where you like to go with your children, we can go there or even your garden at home.  I’m always open to suggestions and constantly on the look out for new places.   I will also choose places based on the time of the year the session takes place.  Some locations work better in spring/summer than autumn/winter and vice versa.  There’s so much beautiful woodland across the East Midlands, we’re really spoilt for choice!

For a full session, I generally ask you to allocate 1-2 hours.    The session time can vary depending on the number and age of children being photographed.    Some locations may take longer to walk around and some children need a snack break.  I don’t rush my sessions and like to make sure children get used to me so if a session takes a little longer, then it’s not a problem. Some parents will also bring a change of outfits.

Note: Mini sessions are approximately 30 minutes.

Outdoor portrait sessions are an informal and a relaxed way of capturing children and families.  I’ve been a Nottingham Family Photographer for since 2009, 4 of those were in a studio. In comparison, I have always found outdoor photo sessions less restrictive than a studio session especially for young children. Young children can quite easily get bored and may want to run around  or move onto somewhere new quite quickly.

Outdoor scenery also creates the perfect backdrop for portraits and allows me to edit your photos creatively.

Absolutely!  I really do recommend having some photos taken with your children even if it’s just a few.  As someone who is mainly behind the camera rather than in front, I value the photos I have with my son and family so much.    Whilst the main focus of your photo session may be on your children, think about having a few family photos too.

If you are a parent who is not keen on being in front of the camera (and, believe me, that’s a high number), an outdoor photoshoot with me makes people of all ages feel relaxed ensuring you are present in your children’s photographic memories.

We have a couple of options.  If it’s light rain and your child is happy playing in puddles or it’s a family photo session and you don’t mind a little rain, your session can still go ahead if you wish.

If that doesn’t appeal or it’s heavy rain, we can re-schedule for another date.  As the weather forecast is often wrong, I usually wait until the morning of the photo session before rescheduling. I’ll keep in touch in the run up to the session date so any worries, just let me know.

This is probably one of the questions most parents worry.  More so with toddler age children as they can be unpredictable or a little shy with new people.   All I can say, is please don’t worry because I’m patient, not pushy and I’m a mum.   If your child needs a little more time, I will completely understand.   I’ve been photographing children of all ages professionally since 2009 and no portrait session is the same.

Yes, I am happy to travel further afield and quotes for other locations can be provided on request.

Of course.   I often photograph extended families from different parts of the country who meet up in the East Midlands as a midway point.   They use their “meet up” as an opportunity to have professional photos whilst they are all together.

Blink … and another year flies by.

I have built up a reputation amongst families who return year after year for family photos.

If you are looking for a friendly and patient family photographer to freeze a moment in time through photos, I’d love to hear from you.
